Show report: Dior Couture 2011

On Monday 4th, the house of Christian Dior kicked off Couture Week by presenting its first haute couture collection without John Galliano, or even an official couturier. Acting as the temporary successor of Galliano was Bill Gaytten, a man of whom had been previously working  with the designer for over 23 years – with time at both Galliano and Dior.

“It was girly, it had a sharp edge at the beginning with graphic prints and lots of different themes – cutting and layering like the inside of a shell,” said Vogue’s Lucinda Chambers. A focal point of the show was the closing ball gown modelled by American favourite Karlie Kloss, who evoked the personality of iconic ‘sad-clown’ Pierrot, as seen below.

After deflecting questions backstage about the situation, there is still speculation as to whether Gaytten will succeed Galliano at the helm of Christian Dior. “I think most people would like that job”, he said.

Who would you like to see succeeding Galliano at Dior? Do you think the disgraced former designer should be given a second chance? Join in the debate at Fashionolia.com.
